One of Jennifer Fisher’s earliest memories is sitting on the washing machine in the garage before dinner, swinging her legs, watching her polo playing, silversmith grandfather solder bolo ties and belt buckles. “Making jewelry,” she says,” is ingrained in my blood.” So is entrepreneurship. At the age of five, she sold handmade caterpillar googly-eyed ribbon barrettes to a local kid’s store. That same year, when her parents went to Vegas for the weekend and left her and her brothers with a sitter, she launched an earring brand called JJ Button Ears.
So it was no surprise, years later — when Jennifer, a long-time wardrobe stylist, after getting pregnant naturally with her first son Shane, following treatment for a tumor in her chest, a failed surrogacy and several unsuccessful rounds of IVF — designed her own necklace to commemorate the birth of her baby. “I didn’t connect with what the jewelry market was offering new moms,” she says. “Everything felt girly and insubstantial.” She wanted a powerful, perfect charm. A talisman. A heavy, tiny totem to touch throughout the day, to keep close to her skin, representing birth, rebirth, transformation. Finding none, she made her own: a 14-carat gold dog tag hand stamped with her son’s name. Soon, everyone on set from gaffers and grips to A-List actresses were requesting custom designs. She fulfilled her first orders out of the bedroom of her Soho apartment. In July 2006, Uma Thurman wore a JF necklace on the cover of Glamour, and the business was officially born.
Everything that Jennifer designs, from 18 carat white diamond solid gold bespoke bracelets to a single brass ear cuff, is thoughtfully created and grounded in her dedication to her family, her home and life philosophy. Simple, sculptural pieces can be worn on their own or mixed together: multiple rings on one finger, fine jewelry with brass jewelry, a single, hoop earring mixed with a statement choker. Worn with sneakers or sleek dresses, with blue jeans or beanies, link chains glittering with enamel heart charms can be layered with rose gold gothic letters and diamond pave letter pendants. Timeless charm necklaces and gold hoops are the perfect gift to commemorate new beginnings — weddings, bat mitzvahs, births, new jobs, second marriages, and all meaningful life transitions — representing authenticity, tenacity and abundance. “Investing in one of our pieces is an investment in yourself,” says Jennifer. “My goal is to grow with our clients.”
